Want to know more about what Efysus is trying to accomplish and why? You’re in the right place.
The Ws
We all know the W’s of storytelling from school. Who, what, when, where, why, how. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; let’s get into the W’s of Efysus (a bit out of order).
This is our story – the story of Efysus. This isn’t our customer’s story. We have no expectation that our customers have the same story as us. This is the story of why Efysus is what it is, and what we aspire to. I expect Efysus to change and grow as we get a better handle on what our customers want and need. As Efysus changes and grows, we’ll post updates to our purpose, vision, mission, and principles.
When
Now – you’re reading this post.
Who
We’re a small family operation, and I’m the founder and public face. I couldn’t do this without the support of others, particularly my wife. She is my right hand in Efysus and in life. I couldn’t do this without her. Right now it mostly us with occasional hand from friends or family. As the business grows, so will our staff.
Why
The purpose of Efysus is to shine the light of Christ, showing the peace, hope, and love that can be found in him.
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians to the church in Ephesus. The book of Ephesians contains a great deal of wisdom on how to be a Christian, how to be a church, and how to deal with living in a secular world. The church of Ephesus is mentioned again in Revelation, with both praise and warning and admonition. For our version of Efysus, we take inspiration from what Paul encouraged the church in Ephesus to be, and from what the Lord commanded the church in Ephesus to do.
That being said, it’s important to say what Efysus isn’t. We’re not a church. We’re not a ministry nonprofit. Nor are we any other kind of religious organization. Churches, ministries, and non-profits are good things, but to have the independence and flexibility that we need for our vision, Efysus needed to be set up as a for profit business. We won’t hide our Christian roots (we are proud to follow Christ), but anyone can benefit from what we offer. We want to make the world better, make how we live better.
What
My vision for Efysus is to advance and equip living right in a world choking on wrong.
Efysus is ambitious. We provide curated goods and services, and that is a continuously expanding and moving target. At its heart, Efysus is dedicated making you better equipped to deal with life, with the world, with whatever befalls you. We don’t have all the answers, and we aren’t for everybody. We are for people who value truth, strength, and purpose. Our products and services are meant to help you on your journey.
How
Our “How” is defined by the principles of Efysus. They come down to how we live – in thought, in word, and in deed. Seek truth, speak in love, defend innocence. There’s a lot to each principle that I’ll unpack in other posts in the future. Here’s where they start.
Seek Truth
Be open-minded. Explore the world around you for new ideas. Bear in mind the world is a nutty place. You’ve got to discard the trash and keep the nuggets of truth.
Speak in Love
We are all made in God’s image. Everyone deserves respect. We should try to understand where the other person is coming from. Speaking in love requires honesty, and sometimes we have to deliver hard truths, but that can be done lovingly. Speaking in love does not mean we support or condone bad behavior.
Defend Innocence
That goes for adults and children, although children are by far the most vulnerable. Defending innocence requires the knowledge, skills, capability, and motivation to do so.
We unpack the mission of Efysus in a separate post, so head there if you want more details.
Where
You’re here, on our website. Welcome.
Why should you care?
My reasons for starting Efysus don’t translate directly to value for you. What we’re trying to accomplish does. Efysus exists to help you navigate the world that we live in. Together, maybe, we can fix the mess that we’re in. We may succeed; we may not. It’s my duty to try. My goal is to bring value to you. Our goods and products are trying to better your life, better your home, better your community. Regardless of whether or not you choose to purchase goods and services from us or somewhere else, buy things from a company that supports your values and that you get value from.
Above all, life is a journey; Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
We’re glad that you’re here. God bless.
